Nailed It! Introducing the Baking Makeup Trend

First, there's contouring. Then there's strobing and color correcting. Now, a new makeup trend is sweeping the beautysphere off of its feet and boy, just hearing it makes us crave for baked goodies! Baking, also known as letting your makeup "cook," is just like all the other makeup trends that are making waves this season - it isn't exactly new. The drag community has been using this method for years until makeup artists kept it as an industry secret. Today, that secret is hardly considered as a "secret" anymore. This makeup application technique has gone so popular that it’s significantly changing the way people apply their makeup. Diagram

Baking is the secret to perfect complexion...

Open your IG app and search for #bakingtechnique and you will see thousands of images and short clips showing MUAs, beauty bloggers and makeup junkies heavily layering powder on their faces like geishas. Baking has gone mainstream in light of the contouring, highlighting and color correcting craze. In a nutshell, it involves letting your choice of setting powder sit on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes allowing your skin's natural oils and heat melt it over your makeup for a flawless and bullet-proof finish. So, what’s the best setting powder to bake with? For us, it’s the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. This setting powder feels incredibly lightweight on the skin. What we love about this setting powder is that it creates a soft-focus effect that blurs all imperfections from the skin. It keeps the skin looking matte and fresh all day long. Powder Baking enhances the coverage of your foundation and concealer whilst diminishing the look of wrinkles, pores and fine lines. It also highlights areas of your face without the shimmer. We consider baking as highlighting's little baby sister - it brings forward sunken features drawing attention to areas of your face that you want to emphasize.

Time to bake!

Truth be told, baking can be a little intimidating especially for those who are just starting with makeup. If you want to learn (and perfect) this technique, watch this Facebook live video of our Luxie Beauty Educator Evelin to show you how it's done.
Before you pack enormous amounts of setting powder on your face, consider the tools you’re going to use to bake your powder with. Evelin recommends not just one but six versatile Luxie Beauty cruelty-free makeup brushes to help you make your baking game strong. Brushes

LUXIE DREAMCATCHER TAPERED HIGHLIGHTING BRUSH 522

– This redesigned multi-purpose brush is one of our best-sellers and is popularly used to apply cream and powder highlighters. In addition, its soft, tapered brush head also works wonders in baking your undereye area. Dip this brush on your setting powder and pat it gently below the eyes. After baking use this same brush to remove excess powders using gentle sweeping motion.

LUXIE ROSE GOLD POINTED TOP KABUKI FACE BRUSH 536

- We love applying our favorite contouring products using this soft, dense and pointed kabuki brush but we also love it in applying concealers to the hard to reach areas around the eyes and nose prior to baking. You can also use this for baking by lightly pressing your setting powder below the eyes, the sides of the nose and more.

LUXIE ROSE GOLD LARGE POWDER BRUSH 518

- For the most natural and subtle baking effect on the large areas of the face, this large powder brush will do the trick. Dip this brush on your setting powder and lightly buff it on forehead and below the cheekbones - the porelessness effect of this technique will have you swooning!

LUXIE ROSE GOLD PRECISION FOUNDATION 660

- It may have been named a precision foundation brush but we’re telling you, it also provides precision when it comes to baking. It effortlessly applies cream and liquid concealers in all the right places and you can use its flat side for controlled pressing of setting powders on areas that needs to be baked.

LUXIE ROSE GOLD PRO PRECISION FACE 680

- The unique, sloped shape of this foundation brush can be used to make your contour more defined and dramatic. Dip it on your setting powder and press below the hollows of your cheeks. Swipe down excess powders after baking.

NEW LUXIE ROSE GOLD PRO PRECISION TAPERED 640

- If this isn’t the most flexible (literally) makeup brush out there, we don’t know what is. The bristles of this brush is noticeably long with just the right degree of stiffness with medium-high flexing that allows you to swipe away your powder once you're done baking under the eyes, below the hollows of your cheeks, forehead, chin and bridge of the nose.
PRO TIP: Make sure you have already applied your foundation, concealer, contouring product, highlighter and blush before you start to bake. These makeup products will melt with your setting powder during the baking process helping them stay put on your skin, all day. Do you have other questions regarding baking? Comment below!
